The Challenge

Nestlé, a global leader in food and beverages, approached us to develop a Shelf Ready Packaging (SRP) solution for the Brazilian market that would enhance shelf visibility and streamline on-shelf product replenishment. Given Nestlé’s fully automated production process and strict adherence to standards, our challenge was create a new and improved solution that met the specifications and dimensions of their existing packaging.

The Approach

In close collaboration with Nestlé, our designers conducted an in-depth study to develop a SRP solution that met the stringent resistance requirements and standards of their production line. To achieve this, our team utilised the Pack Expert, an exclusive Smurfit Kappa tool (now Smurfit Westrock) to calculate the exact strength required for a pack. We also employed EyeScan technology to test and identify key elements for maximising brand visibility, placing particular emphasis on incorporating Nestlé’s vibrant colours into the design.

The Result

With the support of the Nestlé team, we developed an enhanced corrugated packaging solution that seamlessly integrates with their existing automated production process while dramatically increasing brand visibility. Our testing revealed significant benefits:

  • A 94% increase in product visibility.
  • A 154% increase in brand attention. 
  • A 16% reduction in the time it takes for the product to be located on the shelf.

Additionally, the new solution sped up the on-shelf replenishment process, making it more efficient overall.
