The Challenge

Grupo Tres Lomas brings together local citrus fruit producers to supply both national and international markets. They were looking to replace their existing plastic crates with a sustainable paper-based packaging solution. The new pack needed to hold 18kg, be stacked 8 layers high, and withstand high humidity.

The Approach

Using our SupplySmart methodology we calculated the exact pack size needed, factoring in the weight-to-volume ratio, the pallets used, and the size of the shipping containers. We recommended a smaller pack, reducing the weight from 18kg to 15Kg which would improve the palletisation and provide supply chain efficiencies.

The Result

The new solution increased the load capacity per pallet by 19% achieving an additional 3,840 kg per load. This resulted in five fewer shipping containers required in the logistics chain leading to both a reduction in costs and carbon emissions. The corrugated pack also improved brand perception in international markets that demand environmentally friendly packaging.
