Smurfit Kappa welcomed the Welsh Secretary of State to its Abercarn site, to mark new investment in the business
Marking the announcement during the visit to the Abercarn site, Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns said;
“Smurfit Kappa is one of south Wales’ great manufacturing success stories. Their investment in their south Wales operation are sure signs that these are exciting times for the company. Their continued growth has been a strong driver for the overall strength of the private sector here in Wales.”
Mr. Cairns was also very positive about the level of community engagement evident in the business.
The factory was custom built in 1970 as a conventional integrated corrugated plant. With significant investment throughout the years, the plant is now a specialist in manufacturing XXL packaging and large format displays, supplying customers across the UK and Ireland.
Clive Bowers, CEO UK Corrugated commented on the visit;
“We were very pleased to welcome the Secretary of State for Wales, to recognise the investment we have made at our Abercarn plant. This investment highlights our commitment to the future of our business at Abercarn and our support to the Welsh economy.”
With sustainability at the forefront of the company’s ethos, Mr Cairns heard how their design innovations are helping the UK Government to achieve its 25 Year environment plan. To end the day, he was given a tour of the manufacturing plant, learning about the processes and meeting the people involved in the business.
