Smurfit Kappa continues its investment in Scotland with new processing plant at its Glasgow recycling operation

Smurfit Kappa UK Ltd has further invested in its Glasgow recycling facility. The new installation supports the objectives of Zero Waste Scotland in its strategic direction to ‘Support the development of sustainable and high value markets for recyclate with the aim of extracting highest value from resource flows’ by maximising the quality of the Paper and Card we can secure long term sustainable routes into our UK paper recycling mills.

Ian Ledson, General Manager UK North said, “Again Smurfit Kappa is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable investment in Scotland’s recycling infrastructure whilst continuing to support the local economy through its plans for organic growth and the creation of employment opportunities.  The installation will ensure that we can provide our 2 UK based paper mills, which operate on 100% recovered fibre, with enough quality feedstock for recycling into brown paper reels which will then be distributed to our 32 packaging plants including our Scottish corrugated plant at Tannochside which itself has recently announced significant investment.

This brings investments in the Glasgow Recycling Facility to approaching £1.5 Million over the last 2 years and is an exciting opportunity for both our current and future partners to support Scottish and UK recycling”.
