A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our successful speciality plant based in Yate, South Gloucestershire. Reporting to the Design Manager, the successful candidate will design innovative and cost effective solutions for end of line packaging automation solutions in a highly dynamic, fast paced environment with multiple, highly diverse projects within the Packaging Industry.

 

Main duties:

  • To design total packaging solutions encompassing the UK machine build program and third party equipment using mechanical, electrical and robotic methods.
  • To establish and maintain a current library of latest designs for ease of issue to manufacturers.
  • To play an active role in continuous improvement program, with emphasis on assembly, operation and Projects.
  • To provide sales support when and where required.  There will be occasional UK & European Travel.

Skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Exceptional mechanical design ability using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, along with Vault software.
  • Qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering, experienced Engineer or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret and understand complex GA drawings, Factory and Machine Layouts.
  • Bespoke Special Purpose Machinery Design Experience – Moving Parts, Robots, Servo Motors, Chains, Pneumatics and Linear Actuators, Conveyoring.
  • Blank Page Concept designs through to fully detailed Engineering Drawings, BoM generation and Assembly Drawings.
  • Assist with Supply chain sourcing and management.
  •  Working within the Project team – liaising and assisting with Software, Mechanical, Electrical and Commissioning Engineers to deliver Projects to strict deadlines.
  • Varied and diverse Projects within the packaging industry.
  • Primarily Design Office based but will also include Workshop commissioning and site surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills: Internal teams and Customer/supplier interaction. 
  • Excellent problem solving skill and ability to think ‘outside the box’.
