SUCCESS STORY

Helping Orkla switch to sustainable packaging, eliminating 3.6 tonnes of plastic per year

The Challenge

Orkla has a long tradition of developing, manufacturing and distributing market-leading first aid products. Their goal is to transition to recyclable packaging made from 75% recycled material by 2025. Our challenge was to find a sustainable alternative to their existing plastic packaging without compromising on product protection and in-store appearance.

The Approach

To meet these requirements, we designed a 100% paper-based solution which comprised of a corrugated tray and hood. This clever solution ensured the plaster dispensers were protected during transportation and once in a retail environment, the hood can be removed to allow the products to be displayed effectively on shelf in a branded corrugated tray.

The Result

The bespoke packaging solution, consisting of 80% recycled material, met the strict transport requirements whilst significantly improving on the on-shelf appeal. This solution has resulted in an annual reduction of 3.6 tonnes of plastic and 14 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which has helped Orkla Sweden take another important step towards achieving their sustainability goals.
